Item Description:

Science Court: Gravity is part of the Science Court Series published by Tom Snyder/ Scholastic. Science Court Gravity is a Fun way for students in grades 4 through 6 to learn about Gravity.

In Science Court Gravity: Ms. Clara Swindell accuses Sam Bookman of sabotaging her antigravity formula. But is it scientifically reasonable to believe that such a potion existed in the first place?

Over the course of the trial, students will learn:

  • Why some objects have more gravity than others
  • Why an object's weight on Earth is more than its weight on the moon
  • Why even though an object's weight changes with gravity, its mass remains the same
  • How to set up experiments to: Use a scale to measure gravity's effect on weight, Calculate and compare weight on each planet, Measure the mass of an object using a balance and Explore the relationship between mass, gravity, and weight
  • How to work as a team by: becoming members of an interdependent group, listening and talking with others and sharing a common goal

Students are also introduced to the following content vocabulary, visually defined in the Word Wall:

  • Attract
  • Balance
  • Force
  • Formula
  • Gram
  • Gravitational factor
  • Gravity
  • Mass
  • Newton
  • Object
  • Scale
  • Weight
  • Weightless

The Science Court Series Builds a lasting understanding through guided discussion and fun, hands-on learning. Science Court Series offers a research-based way to introduce core science topics and model scientific processes in the classroom for grades 4 to 6

Science Court directly challenges common misconceptions in earth, life, and physical science topics. Students critically examine the facts, articulate their understanding in multiple ways, and perform hands-on experiments to predict the trial decisions and final verdict. This engaging, research-proven approach will help your students build lasting understanding in science while fully engaging them with the humor of Science Court

    STATE AND NATIONAL STANDARDS
    Your students will:

    • Use scientific processes and hands-on experimentation to break down students' persistent misconceptions in science
