Item Description:
ABC World helps with Reading Readiness Skills for grades Pre K to 2. ABC World is published by Micrograms Software and is available in different configurations to fit your needs.
In ABC World there are six letter recognition activities. Two or more activities can be used simultaneously, and letters to be included in the activities can be restricted. Students can be given practice matching upper case letters, matching lower case letter, or matching upper case to lower case letters. They can practice identifying spoken upper case letters or spoken lower case letters. And, they can practice associating letters with beginning sounds. Specific items missed are noted by the record keeping system.
ABC World includes three word recognition activities. The first uses Dolch sight words. They have been divided into eleven lists. One or more of these can be selected for use, or a custom list can be created for students with special needs. Kit pronounces the words and gives help as necessary. Ollie the Octopus keeps track of progress. When students are doing well, a shark or turtle swims by. The second activity provides students practice identifying rhyming words. There are two lists from which words can be drawn The third activity focuses on identifying opposites. Again, there is a beginning and a slightly more advanced word list from which problems can be drawn. Specific items missed are noted by the record keeping.
The final activity in ABC World is picture sequencing. Rosette, a friendly crab, helps students work through the exercises. Three or five picture sets can be selected to place in proper order. Picture sets outside a student's background can be deselected. Jewels appear in the treasure chest as children succeed in placing the pictures in their proper order. Picture sets which cause problems are noted
The primary motivation for students in ABC World is the friendliness of the characters who help students along as they work. Teachers like the fact that students enjoy using this program, but, they also really appreciate the detailed record keeping which this program can do, whether in a network environment or on individual stand-alone machines. At this early stage of reading development, it is enormously productive to pinpoint and then eliminate specific occurrences of student confusion, one by one. Above is an example of the kind of detail this program can capture. It shows the specific items that Tracy Johnson missed and the number of times they were missed.
In ABC World, students work with:
Program Requirements for Windows:
Micrograms products compatible with Easy Track run under all the Windows operating systems listed above. Network versions can be served off of Windows 2003, Windows 2000, Windows NT, and Novell (>3.x) servers; or they can be run from the local hard drives of individual workstations and/or stand-alone machines. We offer nothing, at present, designed for Cytrix, other terminal servers, or the "CD tower" environment. We offer no web-based products.
Program Requirements for Macintosh:
Programs with Easy Track
Programs without Easy Track
Network* and Site License
*NT Server, 2000 Server, 2003 Server, Novell 4, 5, 6, AppleShare, OS X Server
*Micrograms programs with The Easy Track Management System are available in OS X native versions. These programs run on AppleShare networks, OS X Server networks, and from Macintosh partitions on Windows-based networks.
Micrograms products compatible with Easy Track run on OS 10 native and OS 9. However, Easy Track itself runs only on OS 10. Easy Track itself DOES NOT RUN on OS 9. This means that while our programs with theEasy Track management can be used on a network with both OS 10 (including Intel Core Duo) and OS 9 machines, teachers must use an OS 10 machine to access student records or set program options with Easy Track. Network Macintosh program versions can be served off of Windows 2003, Windows 2000, and Novell servers with Macintosh partitions, as well as from Macintosh machines running OS 10 Server. They also can be run from the local hard drives of individual workstations and/or stand-alone machines. While Micrograms programs run fine in hardwired Macintosh computer labs, we do not presently recommend their use with AirPort.
Windows Vista, XP, 2000, 98 running on PC's < 6 years old.
Mac OS 10.5.3 Leopard to OS 9 running on Macs < 6 years old, including Intel Core Duo machines with Rosetta.
Mac OS 10.2.8 Classic to OS 8.6 running on PowerMacs or above.
A Network/Site License permits unlimited use of the program on all compatible computers within a school. This includes both networked machines and stand-alone machines. Unlike the Single Station, School, and Lab Pack versions, the Network/Site License version DOES NOT USE CD's while the program is running.
The schoolwide Network/Site License from Micrograms offers outstanding software value because it is a reasonably-priced, one-time purchase, enabling use of the program on all compatible machines throughout the school building from now on.
Buy ANY Micrograms Network/Site License, and get a second Network/Site License (of equal or lesser value at the same school) for 50% OFF!
